In this company when they decide to fire you you will not be notified.
You will only get up one morning and see that all your classes have been removed.
They owe me the entire salary for August and part of September.
Extremely rude, unprofessional, without any empathy for people.
I wrote to them everywhere and not once did they deign to answer me.
Is this company legitimate? What is it like working there, and what are the requirements?
Hello,
Yes, this company is legitimate and in general it is okay to work here but I am planning on leaving very soon.
First of all, in NiceKid you will have no or very little trouble when it comes to payment. It's always on time and the only trouble is that every time you receive salary via PayPal you will lose 1% from their side and 1% from your side. Even though they should cover 1% on their side they pretend like it is your 1% and not theirs. So depending on how much you made that month you will lost about 10$, maybe 20$. So basically 2% as they don't cover the entire PayPal fee.
Requirements are pretty much the same like any other Chinese school except they accept non-natives. Requirements are bachelors, TESOL or any other teaching certificate (I've noticed they even accept cheap online TESOL) Also, you need to have a computer or a laptop with a benchmark score of more 3600 which means any Intel i5 processor of 7th generation and up.
Students and support are okay in general (although I've seen better) but they will help you only if they feel like it. Not always. As for parents.... some of them won't complain at all and others will complain all the time. They only expect from you to indulge their requests. It is part of online teaching job and you should always be aware of that.
Another thing are cancellation penalties which are quite numerous and basically they expect a perfect record from you, but than again, any other online teaching company has something similar so expect them to be implemented if you break them in any possible way. But, they give you some space to negotiate with them which is nice. Chinese love to negotiate, it is part of their culture.
Lessons are prepared, platform is quite stable and all in all it is a wonderful teaching experience.
Reasons why I'm leaving is the fact they have reduced lesson fees for old teachers and the lesson fees for new teachers are even less then my fee right now. I used to work for 16$ per hour, now it is 14$ and new teachers work for 9-13$ but more often than not for 9$. This makes me redundant in their eyes as they are taking away my students and they give them to the new teachers. You know how it works... they charge them the same price and pay teachers less. Even this wouldn't be a big issue but you can work for only 12 hours a week there and it is a fixed schedule. Now do your math how much you can make. Another horrible and unfair practice is that the booking department gets bonuses if you have two students in your class. Which basically means if one of your students stops taking lessons they will take the other one from you as well. They will say it is because of your performance but clearly there is lack of communication between them, because later they will say you don't have any negative feedback and that your students love you (huh?)
Never expect to have full classes never expect to have more classes which they promise if you achieve certain targets. Never expect salary rise (you can only expect it to be reduced) Never expect to achieve all of the bonuses as it is almost impossible to have a perfect record which you need to have if you want bonuses. Never expect to achieve Pilot bonuses as they pretend none of your Pilot lessons signed up. Even referrals. I've had a number of them and some of them never got contacted and others weren't taken to the end of the recruitment even though they were told they passed. Actually, don't expect from them anything they tell you during recruitment or what is written in the contract. Expect only the opposite
They used to be a decent company but they are not anymore. At least they are not to their old teachers. I don't know about the new ones they accept. Probably they tell them the same thing they told me all this time. I don't know what is going on with this industry but it is getting worse and worse.
Thank you for sharing your experience, much appreciated.
I am just starting to teach English. Please recommend some websites.
Thanks again
If you are just starting to teach, I recommend Engoo or Native Camp. It is easy to get in and they don't have any special requirements. Pay is regular but very low. If you are non-native it goes around 3$ or 4$ per hour. These schools are only good for valuable experience and to get you started. Than you'll be able to see if this line of work is for you or not. Also, their schedule is very flexible as you can work as much as you want anytime you want. Students are pleasant in general and Tutor Support is okay as well. Maybe Native Camp has a better tutor support than Engoo.
Another thing I recommend is if you don't have it already, try to acquire TESOL and if it is too expensive, you can go online and get a really cheap one like around 20$. Not all schools accept it but some schools do and this can be your ticket to a better paid job.
There might be few more options but I feel these two are the easiest. Maybe Eigox as well and ABC360. But I can't tell for sure cause I don't know anyone who works there.
In general, lower paying ones always accept and they are easy to get into. Than you just can jump to bigger school which pays better
@Nikk Can you elaborate on who these "bigger schools" are?
They offer $9-13 per hour.
Is this true?
Yes it is. They've also reduced lesson fee for old teachers and they pay through PayPal which means you have to be ready to lose money using this service. Also you won't be able to have more than 4 lessons per day which means if you get maximum hourly rate of 13USD you'll earn 26USD per day. There are some incentives but nothing significant and it is quite often difficult to achieve.
Other than this it is okay to work here except you have to be ready to do fixed schedule. 28USD from the description was not true even two years ago
No commentary here since 2018 and even then it was more questions than commentary. Is Nicekid still around?
Hello all. Is there anyone here that currently works for NiceKid? :D
What is the starting pay rate? How many classes must be taught before the rate is increased?
