HelloKid Review

HelloKid <—- (Click here to Apply) is a Chinese company and apparently they are hiring even after the shutdown of Chinese companies in 2021. They employ natives and non natives and they are paid the same $15 base rate per hour.  They typically teach 30 minute classes Monday – Friday from 6-9pm (Beijing Time) and 3-9pm on weekends. Would love to hear a new review of this company.

  • They are a nightmare. First, their website is misleading. The pay is okay compared to other online teaching companies, but overall, they are a joke. The way they talk to you is so unprofessional. I hated hearing "my dear" from my recruiter. I mean, WTF? They want you to be a slave for them. Even if you inform them about taking a break two months in advance, they still expect you to work. They simply want you to work while driving or sit inside a hotel room and spend four hours of daylight with spoiled Chinese students who don’t even bother to look at the camera. The company is bad enough, but the students are no better, and the worst are the parents. They are chaotic and have no manners. They can freely shout here and there during your classes. You cannot take sick days because you are not considered human. You have to work right up until you're dying or in your grave because, well, who cares about you?! The only important things for them are the spoiled students, chaotic parents, and the money.

  • Hellokid is a fair company, I've been with them for 3 years, and never any problems. They are of course suffering from all the same pressures a other Chinese companies.

    • They are a bad company to work for! they mistreat you and want you to work for low pay. avoid at all costs.

  • Avoid this terrible company. No one has $15, not even native teachers. They cut out all the bonuses and now they want their teachers to evaluate the students via tests every now and then - FOR FREE! Lame.

  • Can anyone shed info about their recruitment process? I did the demo class with the recruiter, then a trial lesson with a real student, then nothing. What's next? The recruiter hasn't replied.

  • Very unprofessional, empty promises and bad management. I work for HelloKid for over 1 year and they started to treat me bad because they have new teachers who are paid less and of course that's what they want - to work more for less money. If your hourly rate is 12 dollars, you will get 10. That's the new policy.

    • Same thing here, I worked for them for 3 years and seriously I never had any sort of problems with them, (I have to say that before this I was always fully booked and they kept trying to get me to add more hours - but you can only work so much) until 2 months ago when they changed my FM (Manager) and this last one was extremely unprofessional, when she arrived she started to take all of my students away, I knew from the beginning that she didn't like me but I mean its a work environment we're supposed to be professionals so I didn't say anything but a couple weeks ago it got really bad to the point that she fired me claiming that it makes her very angry to see my face in class and that because of that she was in the hospital - that she does not even know me in person and because of me she's in the hospital, she told me that she could not stand teachers, then I reported her and they were like "oh sorry, we hope you can find a job soon"

      • Been working for the since the Beginning on July 2020. my Probation Period is supposed to be over but I am not sure of that anymore. It's taken two and a half months and I already smell something fishy. Lost all motivation for this company. Are there any better one I could be recommended to?

  • It was a pretty good company that used to pay well. You had a fixed-time schedule and even if you were not fully booked you would get fully paid. Unfortunately, they have grown bad. Their new leave and getting pay raise policy is ridicoulus. If you take one class off you can lose all your PB/KPI score that month so you will not be able to get a bonus or a pay raise six months from that day. Now they offer 8-10 $/h mostly which is way less that $15 or $22 you can see on their page. If you want to apply for the second pay raise you will have to wait for 9 months, for the third you'll have to wait for 12 months etc. They used to give $0.5-$1.5 raise, now they give 1 dollar tops. And if you are extremely lucky to get that much, though.
    New management is so so, bearable, but doing all these cuts has driven their teacher crazy.

  • Extremely unprofessional.I was scheduled for an interview and they sent me an email with all the videos/documents/questionnaires I had to watch/read/fill in.Before the interview, the questionnaire for assessing your recruiter was available to fill in but AFTER the actual interview, it wasn't available any more....During the interview, there was such a lot of background noise that as a teacher I could barely focus on teaching....

  • I have been working for them since october 2018 and I can say...
    - pros: the payment is ok if you live in Europe and the bookings are great. The kids are adorable and the staff are usually helpful.
    - cons: it is home based. So if you travel a lot it is not your dream job. Moreover, it is not always easy to get days off (they book the classes for you).

    • I agree, fair company, just suffering like all the other at the moment. Far better than most.

      • Extremely unprofessional, no respect... You can't even be sick or ask for a day off... They will find other sheeps and will not pay u!!!
